World Cancer Day

Objective:

The prime motive for observing the day is to let students know about the disease, its cause, its cure.

Activity:

Children being the future of the nation need to be educated about cancer. Awareness was given to the students on cancer on World Cancer Day in Sofia Public School. Students also participated in poster making, slogan writing and beautifully depicted that having a healthy and physically active lifestyle reduces the chances of chronic disease.

Students apprised that world cancer day is an international day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. Cancer awareness has become exceedingly important. Principal remarked that the primary goal of the day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer. Cancer prevention is action to lower the risk of getting cancer. This can include maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding exposure to known cancer-causing substances and taking medicines or vaccines that can prevent cancer from developing.

Conclusion:

“Together, we challenge those in power”. This theme encompasses the global demand for leaders to prioritize and invest in cancer prevention and care and to do more to achieve a just and cancer-free world.

NATIONAL DEWORMING DAY

Grade – 2

Objective:

  • To raise awareness about the importance of deworming in preventing parasitic infection.
  • To ensure that all school-age children receive deworming treatment and are protected against worms.

National Deworming Day is a crucial initiative aimed at addressing the high prevalence of worm infections among school-age children with the objective of raising awareness about the importance of deworming and ensuring that all school-age children receive appropriate deworming treatment. In this report, we provide an overview of the activities conducted and response from parents regarding the purchase and administration of Albendazole tablets to their wards.

Conclusion:

The successful implementation of national deworming day highlights the commitment of parents towards the well-being of their children.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY – SCIENCE EXHIBITION

Grade 1- 9

The Sofia Public School, Bengaluru organized the Annual Science Exhibition for classes I to IX on National Science Day (28th Feb 2024). The chief guest for this exhibition was Mrs. Ruman Akbar, Director of Sofia Public School inaugurated the exhibition in an innovative way by lighting a lamp on water. The exhibition started at 11:00 p.m. and was open to all the parents and students of the school. The exhibition witnessed great enthusiasm and blooming participation from children of diverse classes, who had the unique opportunity of exploring as well as expressing their creative scientific ideas in the form of activities, models, and projects.

Our Guest Mrs. Ruman Akbar, along with the principal, went around looking at the different models designed by the students and assessed the descriptions given by the students. The parents, too, looked at the various models put up by the students. Apart from models, the students also organized visual presentations to help everyone understand the concepts of their working models.

The students displayed their creative scientific potential in diverse arenas revolving around the themes of contemporary significance, namely, Agriculture and food security, Sources of energy and their conservation, Transport and communication, Disaster Management, Health, Robotics, and engineering sciences. The event in itself ignited the scientific curiosity in children and gave them a platform to give concrete dimensions to their ideas, from the zone of imagination to realism.

The exhibition not only provided the opportunity for children to execute their scientific ideas but also gave them the platform to demonstrate their ideas to fellow students. Based on the feedback and suggestive ideas of the science teachers, the children gained a wider and a newer perspective on further development of their model or project. The students also got the unique experience of demonstrating and explaining their ideas to a wide variety of audience which further enhanced their confidence, communication, and interpersonal skills, overall, a boost to their personality.

The exhibition not only kindled the scientific lamp of inquisitiveness in children but also further ignited the flame due to children’s exposure to a wide variety of scientific concepts, principles, and their application. The event not only fostered a reflective journey in children on the path of scientific discovery but further enhanced the significance and utility of collaborative learning emerging from such activities. On the whole, the Science exhibition was a great learning experience for both the students and teachers alike wherein it seemed that the world of science practically came alive, through the blooming projects of our young student innovators.
